Background of the Study
Hypertension is one of the leading risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and is a major health concern globally, including in Nigeria (Amadi & Okafor, 2024). Regular physical activity has been shown to be an effective intervention for managing hypertension, as it helps lower blood pressure, improve heart health, and reduce the risk of related complications (Adesina et al., 2023). In Niger State, where hypertension rates are increasing, nurse-led physical activity programs could provide a vital opportunity for intervention. Nurses, with their expertise in patient education, monitoring, and management, are well-positioned to lead such programs in both clinical and community settings (Nwachukwu et al., 2023).
Nurse-led programs have been proven to have significant benefits in managing chronic conditions, as nurses can provide personalized care, offer ongoing support, and educate patients about the importance of lifestyle changes (Ogunwale et al., 2024). However, the effectiveness of nurse-led physical activity programs specifically targeting hypertensive patients in Niger State has not been extensively studied. This research seeks to examine the effectiveness of nurse-led physical activity programs for hypertensive patients in Niger State, with a focus on improving patient outcomes and enhancing overall cardiovascular health.
Statement of the Problem
Hypertension is a major public health issue in Niger State, and despite the availability of medications, lifestyle modifications such as regular physical activity are crucial in managing the condition. Nurse-led physical activity programs could potentially be an effective intervention to manage hypertension and improve patient outcomes. However, there is limited research on the effectiveness of such programs in Niger State, and factors such as patient adherence and program structure may impact their success. This study seeks to investigate the effectiveness of nurse-led physical activity programs for hypertensive patients in Niger State, aiming to identify key factors that influence their success and areas for improvement.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the effectiveness of nurse-led physical activity programs in managing hypertension among hypertensive patients in Niger State.
2. To assess the impact of physical activity programs on the health outcomes of hypertensive patients in Niger State.
3. To identify the factors that influence the success of nurse-led physical activity programs for hypertensive patients in Niger State.
Research Questions
1. How effective are nurse-led physical activity programs in managing hypertension in Niger State?
2. What impact do physical activity programs have on the health outcomes of hypertensive patients in Niger State?
3. What factors influence the success of nurse-led physical activity programs in managing hypertension in Niger State?
Research Hypotheses
1. Nurse-led physical activity programs are effective in managing hypertension among hypertensive patients in Niger State.
2. Participation in physical activity programs leads to significant improvements in the health outcomes of hypertensive patients in Niger State.
3. Patient adherence and program design significantly influence the effectiveness of nurse-led physical activity programs in Niger State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on hypertensive patients in Niger State who participate in nurse-led physical activity programs. The research will evaluate the effectiveness of these programs and identify factors that contribute to their success. Limitations include potential issues with patient adherence to the programs and the limited availability of data on the long-term effects of the intervention.
